  • Can I create ‘hand held’ camera effect using Motion Tracker?

Posted by Movie Maker on January 1, 2007 at 4:48 pm

Hi, I am trying to create an illusion that requres the camera to be mounted on a tripod while filming. I also want the finished clip to look like it was filmed on hand held camera.

If I shoot a black dot on a white card using a hand held camera and then use the motion tracker to follow the black dot, can I transfer the pattern to the tripod shot footage?

It sound like it should be easy but I’m not sure where to start. I realise I will have to zoom into the tripod shot footage in order to fill the edges of the screen as the hand held effect will move it.

    Many thanks
    Jimmy

Yeah, I do it all the time. But I found a good wiggle expression with motion blur turned on can do the look really well without the need to track a real dot.

If you drag your entire composition into a new one, and then for the position of the comp, enter the wiggle expression which is like this:

    wiggle(*,**)

*the number of pixels you want the “wiggle” to encompass
**the number of times/second the distance will be changed

I’m sorry if you already know this, but I picked it up from Aharon Rabinowitz’s tutorial, and I think it could help those who don’t know it.

    Thanks,
