  • Can I convert shape from PS to path in Motion to animate on?

Posted by Tangier Clarke on November 7, 2007 at 5:35 pm

Folks, I made a stroke outline of the African country Tanzania in Photoshop. Is there a way I can make that outline a path in Motion 3, and then use a paint stroke to essentially draw that shape? If so, how would I go about doing this?

    Thanks.

    Howdy,

I just tried this out (in CS3, but it probably works in earlier versions) and if you save your PSD file containing your path, you can then open it in Illustrator and it still shows up as a regular path. Once you’ve got it in Illustrator, you can use the export script found here to convert it into a Motion shape preset, which is fully editable/animatable.

    Yes.

Make sure the path is on a separate layer.
Take a basic brush + write on.
    Paint the path.
Add an Image mask to the path layer.
Drag the basic brush to it.

Since the brush is painting on the alpha, it should paint the path on.

    Best,
