  • Can I combine .mov with .mp4 on the same timeline without loss of quality?

Posted by Lindsay Thompson on February 15, 2018 at 2:41 am

Am I going to have issues merging two different formats together (.mov and .mp4) on the timeline, everything else being the same (fps and size)?

I just realized that while I made sure that I used the same fps in shooting my video from both my drone (interchangeable formats, which I chose .mp4) and from my camera, I just now realized they are two different formats! Man…just when I thought I was getting the hang of all of this.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes you can–no problem. MOV’s and MP4’s are just containers. The important thing is the format of the video stream (e.g. avc) which in your case is the same. For V14, it shouldn’t be a problem since it should use the same decoder. Try it.

Vegas can sometimes just show the MOV’s as black preview after a while or if there are too many MOV files. I use Qwinff to convert all my MOV files to MP4.

    My system specs: Intel i7 7700k 4.20 GHz, GTX570, 16GB RAM, Gigabye Z170 HD3, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 10 x64 Pro, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6
