March 26, 2013 at 10:10 pmHi Dan,
when I highlight layer and target footage and right click on fottage, the replace footage item is grayed out …https://files.2he.com/uploads2/2013_03_26_23_00_38.jpg (insert image just uploads my image to nirvana)
when i try the alt drag from footage from project window anto pre-selected layer in comp, the content becomes empty … nothing there to show any more.
What am i doing wrong ?

when I highlight layer and target footage, actually here another comp, and right click on comp in proj win, the replace footage item is grayed out …https://files.2he.com/uploads2/2013_03_26_23_00_38.jpg (insert image just uploads my image to nirvana)
when i try the alt drag comp from project window onto pre-selected layer in comp, the content becomes empty … nothing there to show any more.
Is there a way to exchange footage of layer with another comp ?

August 23, 2013 at 4:54 pmTo replace a source clip in a layer with a different source clip. From the composition window/ timeline, select the layer that needs the source clip changed in the composition window. Press option and drag the new source clip from the project window and drop it on top of the selected layer in the composition window. one note: when you drag the source clip on top of the layer and drop it,,,, there is no visual indication that it worked besides the preview window changing to the new clip. but that is if the preview window is already opened.

February 24, 2020 at 1:43 pmIs it also possible to change a source of a layer with an expression? I’m able to create variable text based on a drop down for text fields (based on text.sourcetext) and colors but can’t come up with a solution for images.

February 24, 2020 at 6:47 pmYou can’t change the actual layer source with expressions, but you can drive time remapping of precomps very easily. So, if you have all of your images in a precomp, you can time remap that precomp based on an expression slider, a drop down, or whatever to show any image you want.

February 25, 2020 at 12:59 pmI haven’t worked with precomps so far, so I have to look into the concept, but I understand they approach you are suggesting. Thank you. As I’m using those “selected” images in various places, I’m not sure how easy it would be to implement, so at the moment I believe I will use nested compositions were I have on base where I have to exchange the image manually. This way I only have to take care for it once and it is an ok approach (not as nice as I wanted it to be though ☺ )
