  • Can G5 have two bootable drives?

My current system: dual G5 2 ghz running 10.3.7, QT 6._ with FCP 4.5

I am planning to upgrade to Tiger, FCP 5, QT 7. With such a major upgrade, I’d like to be able to keep my current system drive untouched by installing all the above on a second internal SATA drive. Is this possible?

If so, once I have these two bootable drives, how do I tell the mac which drive to boot to?

    Thank you!

Yes. Easy as … sorta actually doing it.

When you have installed your new system on your second drive, you use startupdisc in systemprefferences to choose which to boot from.

… or you can hold down option just after you start up your mac to choose from all awailable disks.
