  • Can DVDA use 5.1 .ac3?

Posted by Jeffrey Ellis on August 6, 2010 at 4:48 am

I just tried importing in my finished 5.1 .ac3 file to DVDA, and it says 5.1 (stereo downmix). I need to use it as 5.1, not stereo.

Is there a way to do this? Also, if you don’t mind my squeezing in a second question, how do I create a disc that auto-lays, and has no menus?

    1. Did you set the project properties in DVDA to 5.1?

    Hi, Mike–

Thanks for the advice. I changed the disc properties as you suggested, and also, when creating the project to reflect the 5.1 Surround. The file seems to come in well, but when I see it in the timeline, it’s still stereo. Is this just the display of an .ac3, and it will actually burn in 5.1?

Jeffrey, I know that DVDA will not let you preview/listen in surround mode so my guess is that your guess is correct 🙂
