Narration audio divided up into sections to match relevant video clips.
5 second audio clip drops out for 2 secs in middle.
Audio completely disappears, levels drop, etc., then reappear.

    Here’s the bizarre part:
Double clicking on the audio clip in the timeline and playing it in the viewer = plays no problem.
Dragging the same audio clip to another place in the timeline = plays no problem.
Positioning a different audio clip in the same place=plays no problem.
Re-importing the audio into the timeline from the master/source clip = no problem, until I place it back in the required place.

There is 1 track of video and 4 camera recorded audio tracks above it.
The narration track is track 5, 7 & 8 are music.
At the offending point in the timeline, there are no video effects or dissolves, no audio dissolves and no music.

I have cleaned up the audio by dropping the level to -inf on a couple of frames; but I’ve tried removing the audio keyframe marker points and reinserting them, but it makes no difference.
Dropping the clip to track 6 or any other track at the same marker point still results in audio loss.

Unfortunately, I do not have another take of this particular line of narration dialog.

    Any thoughts,
    Thanks,
    T.

PS. David, I hope you are feeling better!

Try putting the audio in the spot where you want it and then do a render all audio and see what that yileds. If it still isn’t what yu expect select Mixdown under the render selections and then see if that does it for you.

    Hey David,

The audio render didn’t get it but the mixdown did… until
I changed something else, then I had to do it again.
According to the manual it discards the file and un-dims
    the check mark.
Strange really, I have more heavily manipulated audio clips
than that, in more complicated sections.
I’ll have to add a post-it to remind me to render the mixdown
    during the final play-thru check.

    Thanks for your help,
    Kindest regards,
    T.

You might consider opening the Render Manager and deleting all renders for that timeline, and then rerendering all… You just might have a funky render file in there somewhere.

    “Funky Render File”
Wasn’t that a song by Mott the Hoople?

When you were sick it took you 10 mins to respond,
So you must be better because it’s back to 5.

    Render Manager it is….

    Thanks again David,

I used to have that problem quite a lot on the program that I’m working on here. It drove me crazy, and then I changed the Real-time Audio Mixing (under user preferences) from the default 8 tracks to 14, and I never saw that problem again. That would happen if I had a bunch of SFX stacked on top of each other, especially with audio cross fades. Just like you said, when I would render out the stems to lay to tape, it was full of drop outs. Hope that helps.

Then I will do that also,
    Thank you Richard.

Not only does it drive you crazy,
    but it sometimes turns into
a competition between you and the
    computer; the ultimate bad child.
“….. You will do what I tell you
    to do….sooner or later….”

I have to say it’s quite a humbling,
yet rewarding experience to ask for
and receive help from a knowledgeable
group scattered to the four corners
    of the planet.

    David,
Did the Render Manager thing, but it didn’t help.
    Same dropped audio issue.
The only thing that works temporarily is the mixdown.
    Thanks for the suggestion anyhow.
Just thought I’d let you know.

Weird! Sorry I couldn’t fix ya up this time Tracey.

BTW, I’m all well, thankfully. Trust me, don’t ever get the stomach flu I had…

    “Trash the FCP prefs”
Well there goes my nice custom interface layouts….
    Thanks Alex

David, yeah I had it for 5 days once.
It started on a transatlantic flight; 8 hours of misery
in a confined space. It left me very weak.
