  • Can a PC access HVX files on a Mac formatted drive?

I’m new(er) to the COW and in searching, haven’t found any posts regarding the question.

    SITUATION:
We shot with our HVX at 720 24pn and used P2 Genie to transfer the files to two Lacie hard drives. One formatted as Mac Extended and the other as Mac Extended (journaled). Now the client thinks they want to be able to access the footage from any one of their laptops whenever they desire using Premier or Avid or any other PC supported, 720 24pn, editing software. All their computers are PCs.

    QUESTIONS:
    1) assuming the client has editing software, will the client be able to access the files on the Mac formatted drive from their PC?

    2) if no, will Mediafour’s MacDrive 7 solve that issue if installed on their PCs?

    3) if no, would formatting a new hard drive with the MS-DOS format then copying all the files from the Mac formatted drive to the DOS formatted drive work?

    4) if no, should I Peter Pan (jump) off a cliff?

I realize that it would probably be just as easy for them to buy a Mac Pro, but they don’t feel like making it too easy. Or even easier, just have us manage and handle the footage for them.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

    best wishes,

I think you’ll be ok with MacDrive- it’s more of an OS issue than a P2 issue.
