  • Can a DVD created in DVDA start like this?

If I make a DVD using DVDA & put it in my player can I have it automatically play an introductory file for about 30 seconds then either stop as a freeze frame which contains options for both play all or scene selection or if a freeze of the last frame isn’t possible then substitute a still of the last frame.

I have tried having an avi play first & then having a still but there is always a delay between the end of the AVI file & the display of the still.

    Thanks in advance

The delay that you are seeing is normal, and it depends on the player as to how noticeable it is. Hollywood DVD authors minimize this by being able to optimize the location of the media on the disk (to reduce seek time). Basically, in the DVD authoring programs that most of us can afford, you have little control over the transition.

But, if I read your post correctly, you don’t need introductory media. Just make the menu background your “intro” media. In the General tab of the menu properties page, set a loop point at the time that you want the menu buttons to become visible and active.

The way you are doing it is probably going to be your best bet way of doing it.

I’ll tell you how I got it to work for me.
Step one is to grab the last frame of the video clip as a still (make sure the preview window is set to Best/Full).
Set the desired video clip as “first play”.
Make the still frame the background of the “Menu 1” page.
Set the end action destination of the first clip to “Menu 1”.
Now add your play all & scene selection options.

I did as was suggested & placed my introductory video as the background. I then told it to loop at the position where I wished the menus to appear. So far so good when I preview this setup.

A problem occurs however when one plays further down in the project. If I press the up arrow to return to the main menu this occurs OK. The unfortunate thing is that it reverts to playing the introductory video from the start rather than from the place in this video where the menus occur. Is it possible to get the link to go to where the looping occurs?

    Thanks in advance
