I believe that the 3 CCD chips in the Sony DSR-570 from the Rental kit are 2/3″ where the CCD’s from the XL1 are only 1/3″.

I would stick to the DSR-570.

Most rental places I know also offer an insurance option as an additional add on the the price of the rental.

Cheers for your advice, much appreciated. I will stick with the DSR, better safe than sorry!
Annoyingly the rental place does not have insurance so I need to take it out separately. Of course VAT is a killer too.
