    Hi,
Forgive me if this is an old question but I can’t quite find the ‘how-to’ that I need…
I want to create an animation of a camera tracking around an athletics track graphic (as an intro piece)
    1. I have made a vector track with 6 lanes in Illustrator.
    2. Imported it into AE (CS3) and checked 3d
    3. added camera
    4. added null
    5. got very confused how to achieve the flying round the track effect!

Any simple solutions? or good tutorials that deal with this. I cant find one.
    Thanks in Advance!

    [Eugene Constable] “4. added null

Create a copy of one of the lines that forms one of the lanes, you will use this as the motion path for the null. You’ll need to figure out how to do that by reading the manual. When you preview, the null should slide around the track.
Next, parent the camera to the null (umm, manual again). The camera should now fly around the track. You can change the spatial relationship between the null and the camera by offsetting the camera’s anchor point. you can offset the null’s anchor point to change how it relates to the motion path. You can select how the camera stays oriented, either to the path or not.

It’s not complicated but it’s not simple.

    Hi David,
    Thanks for your response.
Still confused though… I’m ok with parenting, nulls and cameras, but here I think the order in which i do things is crucial..
    my steps so far..

    1. Import track, make 3d
    2. Add Null (name it path) paste positionals (from AI)
    3. Add Camera
    4. Add Master Null, parent Path Null and Track, then rotate Master Null x90
    5. Parent Camera to Path Null, auto orient camera to path.

And the camera flies around in a really odd way.. and it doesnt work at all!!!
Any chance you could give me a short step by step, Ive been at this for hours now and my deadline draws closer…

    Many Many Thanks!!
    Eugene
