I am using a Sony Z1 in my Green Screen studio with reasonable results, but it’s a pain to disconnect it from the teleprompter every time I need it in the field.

So, here’s a thought. how about using a mid-range consumer camera that has an HDMI output, joined with a Black Magic Intensity Shuttle to capture in 4:2:2.

In theory this should give me more color information for chroma key.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have a Shuttle, understand there is no laptop that can handle the shuttle yet so unless you build an i7 with an X58 ot P55 chipset and USB 3 and take it with you in the field, the Shuttle isn’t the way to go. Although the blackmagic motion jpeg 1080 60i format I capture via component from my HVR-A1 edits pretty easy and defenetly keys better than HDV, I always set my project properties to progressive when keying.
I recommend the Panasonic TM700 as it shoots way better video than my A1 and at 1980 60p if I want, which keys far better than the other formats, but you need an i7 to really edit its formats. It’s only $750.

    Thanks for the advice.
I plan to make this camera a permanent fixture in the studio, so capture would be to a desktop PC. It would be nice to capture to a laptop because it’s quiet, but as you note, no one makes a laptop with USB3 ports yet. Besides, that would be a significant expense for a simple use. It may be cheaper to build a capture box with water-cooling and a low-end i7 or i5 CPU.
