I personally use the Canon 6D for small business. Yes, it is a DSLR, but for your price point, it hits a lot of the options you need. It performs extraordinarily in low light, has a full frame censor, but also has versatility of shooting a quick headshot for a client on set. You also get the great cinematic quality of the lower depth of field du to the censor being so close to the lens. It does suffer from some rolling shutter, however, it is considerably better than most other DSLR’s in Canon’s line up. I was able to get the body with a lens for roughly $2050 AUD.

Quick note: you can also change the recording format to PAL in the menu.

Hi Jackson, in your price range, I recommend the new 4K Panasonic DMC-GH4. Like a camcorder, it has autofocus, is compatible with Panasonic power zooms, it has an electronic viewfinder you can continue to use while shooting video (unlike DSLR viewfinders, which are blocked by the mirror) and can record continuously for hours (compared to the 30 minute cap on continuous recording for most DSLRs).

It also has a 1080/96p slow motion mode.

In addition, it records at full 4K resolution, 4 times the resolution of either the NX30 or the 6D.

You can get this camera, body-only, for less than $1600AUD right now at Ryda's No Frills Sydney via eBay.

With a $360 14-42mm 3:1 power zoom lens, you will be as close to an interchangeable lens camcorder as you can get for less than $2000AUD.

Here is what this camera can do:

I agree with Canon 6D. We’ve been using one for the past year and haven’t had any trouble. It’s very similar to the 5K.

As for the rolling shutter, ANY Camera (not just DSLR) with a CMOS image censor is susceptible to rolling shutter issues. Use plenty of camera stabilization when shooting and know the limits of motion your camera can handle to avoid it!

    I second Bill’s suggestion on the GH4.

I’d also suggest looking at Blackmagic’s offerings. I’ve been shooting on the Pocket Cinema Camera (aka BMPCC) and the Cinema Camera (aka BMCC) and have had stellar results from both. The BMCC comes out to a little more than $2k AUD, but it’s well worth the money and available in several mounts.
