Ive made a 3D room. Just a floor and a BG then got Conoa plug in to make a cube. I have the cube floating in the room but when I add a camera and select the orbit tool (mac so I hold option, click) it highlights one of my layers and orbits it around instead of my camera just orbiting thru the space/room. Im new at AE and any help is HIGHLY appreciated. Thanx!!!!

AS far as I know, AE doesn;t do that. I don;t think it;s actually orbiting around the layer.

Most lilely, the layer that it appears to be orbiting is at the XYZ coordinates 0 – right at the center of the AE universe.

Try moving you’re camera’s point of interest to the point in 3D space you want it to orbit around.

If on the other hand, you don;t want the camera to orbit anything, and just want it to freely rotate (as if it were on a tripod), then select your camera and then go to the menus:

Layer > Transform > Auto Orient, and set it to Off

If you want to get better control of the camera’s point of interest, check out this tutorial:

I’m going to cover the basic pitfalls of such a project:

    1. Make sure you have a camera layer in the comp (obvious, but sometimes forgotten)

    2. Make sure your composition view is on ‘Active Camera’ and not something like ‘Front’

    3. Try selecting the Orbit Tool from the tools palette (or hit ‘c’ until you get to it)

    4. Make sure all of the layers you want changing in perspective are 3D layers (if the background is a 2D layer the camera and its properties will have no effect on its appearance)

Sorry for all the basic suggestions, but I just wanted a starting point for us to work on figuring out what’s wrong =)
