So I’m trying to create a camera movement in which a camera moves in a circle (in 3D space) while maintaining its orientation on an object in the center of the circle.

How can I accomplish this without hundreds of keyframes? I thought there might be a way to manipulate bezier curves but cannot figure it out.

The easiest way is to use a null:
    1. Position the camera
    2. Create a null, make it 3D and position it where your object is located
    3. Parent the camera to the null
    4. Animate the rotation of the null
