My main cameras: Sony EX-1R and Sony FS7-m2.

    I love the EX-1r and I respect the FS7.

I am probably going to sell the FS7, as most of my jobs do not demand its level of sophistication, and it is harder to use in the run-and-gun world, especially when I’m without an assistant, which is about half the time.

But I need to replace the EX-1R. I believe I need two cameras.

I would appreciate advice for cameras with the following characteristics:

    CAMERA ONE
    1. XLR inputs
    2. 4k, or at least UHD, and HD
    3. would be nice to have some slow-motion capability, at least in HD.
    4. light weight, and easy to use “out of the bag.”

    CAMERA TWO
    1. mirrorless camera for low-light settings
    2. good auto-focus and auto-follow-focus in low light

I am mainly looking in Sony World, but I’m open to other possibilities. Advice please???

[Bob Cole] “I am probably going to sell the FS7, as most of my jobs do not demand its level of sophistication,”

I thought of the FS5 since it’s smaller and still ticks the key feature set but I also felt that for the kind of run and gun I shoot, it may have actually slowed me down in some cases that I can’t afford to.

So I got the PXW-Z90V but if you want something similar to EX-1R you might consider the PXW-Z280

    Perhaps Sony A7III

I’ll second the A7III. Very capable, has UHD, and with the addition of the K1M or K2M, you can get two channels of XLR inputs. Slow motion in HD at up to 120 fps. SLog2 and 3 if you need it, otherwise, the standard gammas are quite useful with good dynamic range.

I don’t use the autofocus, since I don’t trust machines to do a man’s job, but I’ve heard it’s pretty good.

You also might consider something like the Canon XF705 if you don’t care about interchangeable lenses.
