What HD/SD camera do you recommend for about 10K and why?

    Current list…

    Sony Z1U
    Canon HDV
    Panasonic HVX-200
    Sony DSR400

    Thanks Steve

Canon H1 – Great picture! You may not use HD-SDI from the get-go…but you will sooner or later for, say, 4:2:2 keying to a Wafian or HD deck.

Z1U–best bang for the buck if you dont need 24fps. We are talking 4599 at B&H versus close to 10,000 for the Canon—-the images are very good on both.

Have to agree with EOR – true progressive and the form factor of a standard camera with standard lens. Also the focus assist is really well done, in my opinion much better than the Z1 or HVX.

I guess its kind of stupid to recommend anything until we know what he his primary shooting is going to be. If he is going to film, then I could agree with the JVC.
