Calling all Online Editors
I’m going to be onlining a series in a few weeks on FCP. The offline editor is cutting at dv resolution 29.97 anamorphic…I will be conforming at HD resolution 1080i 59.94 (probably pro-res). Are there any things that the offline editor (also using FCP 6) should avoid doing that might potentially cause me grief when it’s time to re-digitize? Things such as motion effects (slo-mo, speed up), multicam editing or anything of that nature? Any other things to look out for?

Just off the top of my head… things that I have encountered:
Frame rate capture discrepancy shot at 24, cap’d at 30, edited 24…
Illegal characters in the file names… these things are show-stoppers when going to Color.

Do a test. Get the off-line sequence NOW… I know it’s not finished, but get it.
Do a sample upres and see what happens. Depending on the creative, you can have an easy time or a very difficult time. My first impression is that “scaling” will be an issue. If there are any resizing effects these will have to be recalculated.
Other things to look out for: Speed ramps. Still frames. Grfx. Pay attention to how these items have translated. Chances are they will be NOT what you expect.
