Caldigit Drives & FCP
A few weeks ago I asked about Firewire vs SATA and what was better to use for capturing footage. Thank you for all the great responses!
Many of you suggested the Caldigit S2VR Duo and I am getting ready to order one and have another question.
If I buy 2 500GB S2VR’s can I have footage on both of them and seamlessly work on a project that has some footage on one unit and some footage on the second unit?
My thinking is; one I can spend $500 now and $500 in 6 months…. which is nice. But another reason is sooner or later a drive will die. If I have the 1TB I am down until I get replacement drives. If I had 2 500GB units at least one would still be working… I may have to re-dig but at least I can keep working.
So again the question is if I have 2 500GB S2VR’s can I have footage on both of them and seamlessly work on a single project?

Sure, but I would capture everything to one drive first and then as that fills up, you can capture to the second drive.
Or stripe them together as one array and you’ll get increased speed as well. You can put four units on a single SATA card.
