    Hi Guys
After reading Bobs cool review on the caldigit s2vr …..Would there be anything wrong with buying the caldigit s2vr controller card then buying the empty sonnet 500p boxes and loading them up with big drives? Here in Australia it works out heaps cheaper to do it that way. Anyone else done this?

I posted too quick. What kind of benchmarks were you able to obtain with decklink?

    Gene –
I wrote an article for Creative Cow about this subject. This combination is great, and can do uncompressed HD. Write speeds are about 210mb/sec, read about 230mb/sec. This is not a revalation – this stuff has been out for a while, and it works great. So Gene, get out your credit card, and start SPENDING SOME MONEY.

    Hello Bob,

WHat you think is best, a Caldigit card with Sonnett, or Caldigit card with the s2vr or wait for thr 8 bay 4444 unit? I am looking at doing uncompressed HDV form the JVC HD100U but then lookingat eventually the HDCAM F900 uncompressed. My system specs are on my profile.

    Thanks,

    Leo

There is no reason to wait for anything new to come out. The 5 bay CalDigit will do uncompressed HD right now, and if you want to have 450mb/sec, you can simply use TWO 5 bay chassis – this will give you 10 drives (not 8), and this will be fast enough for anything you can throw at it.

With that said, there is no such thing as uncompressed HDV, and if you are working with HDV, you can use a cheap Firewire 800 drive – no need for an incredible product like the Cal Digit. When you start using the F900, then it’s a great investment.

    Hello Bob,

I meant to say record the Analogue component outputs or the SDI out of the JVDHD100U into the Blackmagic Multibridge Extrmee then capture that as uncompressed 8 BIT HD. Yes so when we start projects with the F900 do you think 1 5 bay Caldigit would do the job or need x2 drives or the 4444 product?

    Thanks,

    Leo
