So, I have tried on numerous occasions to get files from CAD programs and bring them into C4D. I ask for DXF files. They send a file that looks suspicious like an Illustrator file (from the icon) and I try to import into C4D… Wrong file Format. Try to open with Illustrator … it just locks up.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get CAD files to integrate with C4D… It would save me days of model building if I can open this file

    Thanks

Make sure to ask for dxf 12, and ask them to purge the document of xrefs etc. If you are getting 2d cad plans from Acad, ask them to explode lines before exporting.

For full 3D interface…. We managed to get some decent results with .obj exports. It comes across in millions of pieces… has to be connected, optimized and re-phonged.. but it works.

Also, there is a strange case of redraw… I think it is a depth of field check box but I can’t seem to find it.

As I zoom in and out, parts of the objects disappear (Gourad or Quick Shading)

    Thanks for the info.

I do this routinely via .wrl format (VRML). Lots of issues with solids importing unless they are converted to mesh first, then none at all. If it’s an option give it a whirl.
