OK, I have just bought myself an XFX HD 7870 DD because I’ve done a lot of research on the card and found it was superior to nVidia’s next-best in render times in Vegas.

The problem I have is when the GPU does kick ass at rendering the video is extremely choppy, the FPS looking to be around 10fps.

The issue occurs when rendering Logitech C920 output using the often used mp4 render settings, if I let the project control the frame rate and aspect ratio the video comes out choppy using Sony AVC. But if I render allowing the render to change frame rate (say, to NTSC) the video frame rate improves greatly but render times are roughly the same as CPU render times.

If I render in MainConcept there is no benefit from GPU, and I get a jerky response in normal applications on my desktop and the video ends up looking good. If I render using Sony AVC the render is really fast, (literally 4x faster than MainConcept) but the output is jerky. Both settings are the same in terms of bitrates.

Anyone know what I should try?

    Samsung 128 SSD
    Sony Vegas 12 (770)
Logitech C920 Webcam (Download to computer in mp4 H.264 codec off the bat)

Mainconcept AVC OpenCL does not support AMD graphics core next GPUs. This is 7xxx series and newer.

Vegas itself (the video engine) and Sony AVC do support newer AMD GPUs.

The Sony AVC encoder is about twice as fast as Mainconcept, single pass, when both are CPU only.
