Hey guys, just recently I did the VideoCopilot “The Bullet” tutorials where a major part of the training was to integrate elements from 3D programs outside of AE- My choice of 3D was Cinema 4D and in order to import data from my cinema 4D files I had to install a plugin “CINEMA4DAE.aex”. The tutorials went fine and the plugin worked perfectly but ever since installing it, I get a message pop up every time I start up After Effects. The message is as follows:

After Effects error: opening resource file :”CINEMA4DAE.aex” – unexpected end-of-file (-39).

This is really annoying as I hate opening up AE, walking away, only to come back to it stuck on the AE splash screen because this message is preventing AE from opening right up.

Would appreciate any help as to how I could get rid of this error at startup without actually getting rid of the plugin.

    Regards, Eugene

Hey. Any luck with getting this issue resolved?

    I’m having the same problem.

    Mac G5 Dual 2.5
    Cinema 4D R11
    After Effects CS3

Downloaded latest versions of plugins from Maxon. (I also tried the older versions).

Installed a copy of the “C4D.plugin” and the “CINEMA4DAE.aex” files into my After Effects plug in folder.

I get the same opening splash error.

I can’t open the .aec file Cinema 4D generated in After Effects, whether I double click it, or try to import it from within AE.

    Cheers

Hey, unfortunately not. Still not sure what’s causing the problem. I’m just having to deal with it by clicking ok every time it pops up. I remember lookig around at the time but couldn’t find any cures on forums so I’ve given up pretty much, for now anyway. Still annoys the hell out of me though. If you do find out please reply to this post. Would appreciate it.

    Hi Eugene,

I know it has been a while but I think I may have a fix for you.

If I was you I would remove the offending file: CINEMA4DAE.aex as it isnt doing anything if it is bringing up that error.

In its place (plugins directory) put the file: C4D.plugin. You can find this at:

    https://www.maxon.net/downloads/updates-co/updates/plugins.html

it is at the top of the list in the After Effects folder and entitled “Plugin for After Effects CS4 to CINEMA 4D R11.5 connection.”

Worked for me when I had that problem and you should be able to integrate with C4D again.

    Good luck

wow thanks. I had given up looking for a fix and forgot about it this whole time. I’m not by my comp atm but I’ll try it out when I get home. Yeah I didn’t delete that aex file to begin with as I thought that it was integral to making the plugin work. I’m sure this will fix it so thanks in advance! This should save me a lot of hassle in the future.

    cheers!
