  • C4D on 2nd machine? New User question

Posted by Jhankins on January 20, 2007 at 2:27 am

Is it possible/allowed to install C4D on your 2nd machine for non-concurrent use? I’d like to install on my MacBook Pro for mobility purposes. I’ve opened a question up on Maxon’s site but they said I’d hear back in a few days on the web page. Looking for instructions on how this is accomplished. Do I call a telephone number or something to get new keys for 2nd machine or am I forced to only use one machine per license. (That would be a bummer).

I haven’t checked the license (would be a good place to start), but AFAIK it’s okay. You can use the same serial numbers.

I tried that but it said they were expired?? I entered what I think are the permanent serial numbers (not the ones that came on the sheet with the box, but the ones that showed up after I initially installed under the help/personalize menu. As I’ve only had this software for a week, I’m assuming it’s something besides expiration.

    Hi,
this is covered in the EULA you confirmed on isntallation. It is not allowed to install CINEMA on more then one machine at a time.
    Cheers

    Thanks,

You wouldn’t happen to know how to re-display the EULA or have a link to it? I certainly want to be in compliance and must have missed it by clicking too quickly. I’ve checked the Maxon website and can’t seem to find it (one would think this would be available as it is a pre-purchase interest to be sure!) Regarding my earlier statement of the expired numbers. I was incorrect as I was not entering them correctly. The new permanent ones have not arrived as I only just figured out I needed to fill out the web form to request the permanent ones. (I’d assumed the shortend numbers were the permanent ones until I noticed they were the same).

Sure would be nice if Maxon would allow this such as an option for a hardware key like I use for Lightwave and Logic Pro as an example. Yes the fear of loosing the key is always there but the freedom it allows to leverage the big machine when stationary and the notebook when on the road is worth the pain. Having the option to convert to a hardware key for this purpose would be nice in my opinion. (leave the default without as I assume those with only one computer would appreciate not having their USB ports used up. Other than that, I’m thrilled with the program thusfar and really excited to learn all I can about this new world (for me) of the 3D.

    Cheers!

CINEMA is one of the very few applications that can be installed on a removable media without any problems. You can put it on an external disk or even a memory stick and run it just fine from there. This way you can take it with you wherever you want.
If you already have a complete installation you want to continue to use, just move the whole applicaiton folder to the removable drive. No extra action is required.

    Perfect,

Thank you for the info. That will solve my problem perfectly! I already use a portable drive for Aperture so this will work out perfectly.

Thanks so much for the help!

you said – “I entered what I think are the permanent serial numbers (not the ones that came on the sheet with the box, but the ones that showed up after I initially installed under the help/personalize menu.”

Did you know you need to register your temporary serials numbers with Maxon (either through their website or via mail), and the will issue you permanent serials? The serials that you see in the personalize menu after the original install are the same temp numbers, but with 16 characters removed. Those are not you permanent serial numbers – they will expire.

Yes, I figured that out after relooking at the numbers and noticing the first 11 digits were the same as the original and went to the website to register them. Thanks for letting me know as I easily could’ve missed that. I originally thought that the system generated the numbers via the internet as the format changed. Obviously that’s not the case.

At any rate, I’m up and running now. Appreciate all the help from everyone as a get wobble and stand up with a new program to learn. I’ll be like a sponge here to be sure.

    Regards,

    Jim
