  • C4D Lite v22 – want to open old C4D files, anyway to access r19?

    Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked and answered many times before, I searched but couldn’t find anything.

I used to own a copy of C4D Studio r16, made many projects on it, but have long since ceased to use it. I use AE’s included C4D Lite these days if I need any 3D. Trouble is I now want to access a couple of my old files and have discovered they won’t open. I’ve found some help guides which suggest that opening them in r19 then saving resolves this, but I can’t see a way to install r19 through Creative Cloud.

Has anyone encountered this and is there another option I’m not aware of?

    Hi Graham,

I’m not familiar with that issue but if you want me to try opening and saving the files in R19 I would be glad to try.

That’s very generous of you, thank you. I’ve sent you a connect request, I haven’t tried before, but presumably that will allow me to DM you.

    Thanks again.

Glad to help. I don’t know much about the connect request, but every time I try to accept yours I get an error message telling me to try again. If you only have a couple of files just post them here.

I just tried again and I’m now connected with you, but I don’t know what that does for us.

Thanks Jim. I can’t actually see a method to contact you, could i ask you to drop me a line at shiveringc AT gmail.com please?

That way you’re not having to post your email address (and this is my public facing one)

For anyone searching about this solution, I thought I’d update you, with Jim’s help, the resaved version worked. Obviously we can’t all send our files to Jim Scott, so I’ve contacted Maxon support to see if I get a response. I’ll post their answer (and fingers crossed) solution here.

Thanks again Jim, Creative Cow always comes through for me.

Maxon’s team have replied quickly promptly.

Thank you for reaching out, apologies but it is not possible to downgrade to a previous version of Cinema 4D Lite uses.
There were major changed in the licensing method between R20 and R21, and out Lite licences only currently work with S22/R23 as this is what currently ships with Adobe AfterEffects.
How many files do you need to convert? If it’s just 1 or 2 I can do that for you …

All in, I think that’s a fair enough response. I asked if it was possible to get Lite r19.

I work for a software company and I understand that there can be unforeseen consequences when featuresare updated. Their offer for 1 or 2 files is nice enough and I’ll take them up on the offer should I need it.

I just wish I’d been informed when I still had r20 installed.
