C4D doesn’t remember 2nd screen.
Posted by Gerrit Velthuis on April 1, 2019 at 10:10 amOn my old iMac (with R17 and OS 10.9.5) the custom made Startup layout remembered my Timeline, Pictureviewer and Render Settings windows to be on the second screen, every time I opened C4D. On my new iMac (Mojave) with R18 it doesn’t.
Every time I open C4D I have to drag the windows to my second screen (which is the same monitor as used to be connected to the old iMac).
What might be the reason ?Gerrit Velthuis replied 7 years, 1 month ago 3 Members · 8 Replies -

April 1, 2019 at 1:02 pmAt work here I’m working with a early 2008 with 10.11.6 – nothing has changed but one of the programs now starts on the wrong monitor every time. That just started by itself a few months ago. However, we do occasionally unplug monitors to test something. In your case where the one monitor is dedicated and the other is an add-on… has the connection type to the second monitor changed?

April 1, 2019 at 4:16 pmYes, I think so. I had to buy a special connector.
The connection on the old iMac is missing on the new one and vice versa. -

April 1, 2019 at 7:43 pma quick search and it looks like maybe Spaces could be a cause. Behaviour changed at Yosemite https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6617883

April 2, 2019 at 7:11 amSounded reasonable, but didn’t get me where I wanted.
Other apps with multiple windows/menus open, act “normal” with the same prefs. -

April 2, 2019 at 2:53 pmyeah, not much hope from what I read, seems like “your mileage may vary” some people are having trouble some not. For what it’s worth the program I was having trouble with opened on the window I want it to after I turned off ‘Displays Have Separate Spaces’ in Mission Control then turned it back on again… but that’s El Cap not Mojave.

April 6, 2019 at 7:51 amWell, thanks anyway, Brian.
Other apps. behave like they “should”; only C4D is having problems.I guess I have to live with it.

April 6, 2019 at 5:09 pmAnd choosing your layout from the layout list (top right of interface) doesn’t shoot the panels to their right place?
I wasn’t having this issue on the PC in <=R18 but am now in R19,20. So I have to choose the correct layout each time. I assumed this was because I’m constantly traveling and having different second monitors in each location. I can hear C4D grumbling “Oh what now!?” each time I plug in a new screen.
