Is it possible to do what I have depicted in the image attached in After effects? Its seems like a simple thing but I have tried and cannot seem to figure out how this is done. I understand how to use the compositing tag to extract a solid but how do I use a shape layer and how do I place the shape layer between my two cubes? If this is possible can someone please explain to me in steps how to go about this.

I’m guessing you’ll need to do a multi-pass render so that you’ll get an alpha-channel pass of the C4D objects, then you bring that into AE to composite it so that it looks like the AE shape layer is sitting between the C4D objects.

Do a quick good of multi-pass render and alpha channel if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I think GreyScaleGorilla has some tutorials on this subject too (but I could be wrong).
