C4D, After Effects, and the camera
Hi all. I’m new to C4D and had a question about importing into After Effects.
What is the purpose of bringing the camera from C4D into AE if C4D renders the files into Quicktime or stills? I would assume once C4D renders your animation, you’re locked to that view. Can the imported camera alter the view? (Say you have an animation where you are panning the camera 90 degrees. After you’ve rendered and imported into AE, can you change that to 120 degrees (or whatever)?)
If so, is there a clear or comprehensive (or both) tutorial(s) on how to render in C4D and import into AE (and what to do once in AE)? Something which takes you step by step, and has a lot of info on cameras? If not a tutorial, then is there a book or DVD?
I’ve read over the documentation that comes with C4D, and the tutorial by Thorn on this site, but both are limited, and I can’t seem to find much else online.

The reason you import project file into AE is for 3 primary reasons I can think of:
1. Your render passes are auto composited for you in AE. Of course you can change what you want, but a lot of the times it’s a great head start.
2. Importing cam data. No this is not used to change your mind later and move the original 3D objects in AE because you can’t. It is so whatever elements you ADD in AE will lock up with the motion of the imported renders.
3. Light data. Lights are created in AE that match the C4D lights so whatever you add in 3D space in AE will be roughly be lit the same as well.
