    Help!
I’ve been using a certain workflow for several episodes of a 1 hour series and for the life of me I can’t figure out how to get the conform to assign source timecode to my edits based on an EDL.

    Here’s the scenario:

    – I export a baked show as one long MXF file (Avid DNxHD)
    – I export an EDL of the show from Avid
    – In Resolve, I add the MXF file to the Media Pool
    – I Preconform the MXF file with the EDL

Everything works, except I cannot figure out how to get Resolve to recognize and assign the source timecode to the edits. It sees the EDL, reel names, master code, etc. but it assigns the master code to the sources. So I can never sort my timeline in C-mode, which is KILLING ME! I need C-mode! Please help!

Things I’ve tried, to no avail:

    – Splitting the clip with the EDL
    – Assigning timecode by frame count instead of embedded

    Whew, thanks

    Dean

[Dean Manion] “I cannot figure out how to get Resolve to recognize and assign the source timecode to the edits.”

Yeah I was hoping Resolve would do this too but apparently not, so the only way to use ‘Source’ (or C-mode) is to conform the EDL, using multiple source clips, in Resolve rather than using a single ‘baked’ clip.

A simple C-mode button would do the trick.
I love grading in C-mode to compare repeating clips .

    You’re kidding, right?
You said it yourself, that as a source you’re using “one long MXF file (Avid DNxHD)”. So, how do you expect Resolve to do the C-mode resort? The TC is continued and you lose that ability once you “bake in” your TC, unless you use the source with the original TC.

Resolve has an option to split the single clip into multiple clips based on EDL when you do a pre-conform. If this process could also apply the source timecode from the EDL to the clips then c-mode would be possible.

No, Jake. You’d know if I were kidding. Just being logical. Seems pretty simple to have Resolve apply the source code and reel to the master file in a preconform workflow. It already reads the EDL and splits the file based on the EDL. Why not apply source code based on the EDL as well?

All kidding aside, someone at BMD agrees with me and apparently they’re including this fix in the next update. No kidding, really.

    Nice Dean,

Jake can come off a little brash to say it nicely. Not sure why he feels the need to lash out in post.
We all have questions, in my world, no question, is a dumb question.
I have been using the resolve daily for over 5 years. I continue to learn every single day.

I use pre conform daily, both the source tc and timeline time code are preserved, C mode does work if the edl is managed properly.

    Hey Jake,
Maybe you should count to 10 before hitting the post direct button..

    I’m just kidding.. 😉
