I just did a CBR mpeg 2 encode with the new build of DVD architect and it looks like my dread “unknown error” message is gone! Thanks a ton Sony – this is great. I’ve been plauged with not being able to do a constant bitrate mpeg 2 encode for a few months now – ever since 5d. Everything else has worked great but that pesky little issue. Sony said that the new build of DVD architect might address this problem – it does something to the mainconcept mpeg 2 render engine – and it did.

    YEEEHAAAA!

    Thanks a TON Sony!

p.s. – Mehash, I’m betting this will solve your problem as well. Hope this helps & good luck.

Thanks for the update Yoyodyne. That is really good news.
You know, I have paid for the V6/DVDA3 update but haven’t had the courage to install it. I must download 6.0b and dvda3.0a soon.

As a matter of interest this what Sony support said last month.

I recently became aware of a couple issues with MPEG rendering. One of the issues does involve an error message stating that the reason for the error could not be determined during rendering. This issue is related to an issue in the Main Concept encoder and it should be fixed as soon as possible. I’m not sure if the fix will make it into the next Vegas update or not, so you may want to keep 5.0b around to do your CBR rendering for the time being. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes you. For what it’s worth, the issue is in the Main Concept encoder, so we will implement the fix as soon as we receive it from Main Concept. I did try to reproduce your problem under several different circumstances using a PAL DV .avi file but I had no luck, so hopefully the problem will be resolved in an update. Please let us know if you continue to have problems in the future.

As you see, the issue was not with Vegas coding but Mainconcept problem.

My problem is I feel quite secure with 5.0b but would like to switch to DVDA3 with its recent update.
May be that’s the way to start. I may just install DVDA3 and see how it goes with 5.0b

    Oh forgot to mention.
If you have to re-install V6.0b, you would lose the updated files.

You can either re-install DVDA3 after installing V6.0b or
    make a copy of
    shared plug-ins>file formats>MCMPEG
and then restore it after installing V6.0b

Hopefully you do not have to re-install v6.0b

Howdy mehash, glad to see you got my post – thanks for the heads up about the re-install. I don’t think I’ll have to – just got done with a HDV project and Vegas worked great. Now that the CBR mpeg issue is fixed the only problem I have is sometimes if I copy and paste a bunch of events the media manager shuts itself down. Of course I have yet to try this sucker out so it is not affecting me at all. I think this is a known bug as well.

Ide have to say back up your system and give Vegas 6/DVD architect 3 (the latest builds)a try – been working great for me.

    Good luck

Not True- reinstalling Vegas 6.0b (or any earlier version of Vegas or DVD Architect) will not overwrite the MPEG components installed by DVD Architect 3.0a. Our MPEG components are shared between apps, and are versioned so the newest always overwrite anything older.

    Dave
Thanks for clearing that up. Not overwriting older version makes sense. I was going by my experience of going from v5.0b – 5.0d – V6.0a and then reverting to V5.0b.
My apologies for providing duff info.
