I’m working in Photoshop with a multi-layered RGB image. My background layer is black and white and I want to keep it as pure a black and white as possible. What can I do to get the best b&w for the background and keep the other layers in RGB? I am hoping this is not impossible because the background layer always remains locked, right?

    Thanks!

Not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve with the B&W of the Background, but to address the other issue, no, the background layer is not always locked. If you double click on it and rename it Layer 0, it just becomes a layer.
