January 27, 2007 at 12:17 amA new question, based on new woes with my current software. Is Vegas playback/previewing prone to stuttering? As I increase the complexity of my editing, the playback is in a constant start and stop of both video and audio — a second or so of action followed by a frozen screen (in spite of the time counter continuing smoothly)which after a moment snaps into a later frame. I am no longer able to edit the voiceover to match up with the film.

January 27, 2007 at 1:55 pmAs the complexity of the timeline increases (i.e. effects added, multiple tracks, etc…), yes the framerate will drop. Other things, like preview settings, will affect this as well – Preview (Auto) will give a better framerate than Best (Full), for example.
Why don’t you do the voice sync time critcal stuff first and then add the other effects last?

That sounds like it would work. But a suggestion came in earlier (from my Serif forum) to mute the tracks I didn’t need and that worked for me.
What I was facing was not just a slow framerate but long stops between split second moves from frames widely spaced on the film. Would you know if things can get this bad with Vegas? Or would you happen to know if this happens to some extent with every editing program, even the most “professional”?
