Ok, i know that the processor isnt a huge deal for Motion but the graphics card is. I need the best machine i can get for $1900 or less (pisses me off because macs are WAY over priced) Here are my options unless you have better.

I chose refurbished because it seems to give me more bang for the buck, unless you think a new one is really worth the extra money…

I would replace the ram with 16gigs through crucial.com
I do motion graphics, final cut server and adobe creative suite.

Why don’t you go for a MacPro…that way your expansion options would be better too.

The price of a MacPro for one is out of my budget and it is in my opinion very very over priced.

I don’t agree with your analysis of cost however, given the choices you’ve outlined, get an i7 processor paired with the best video card.

The i7 is multi-threaded, so 2 cores spawn 4 threads. The video card with max VRAM is required for Apple Motion.

If you can hold off, I’d wait until the intel sandybridge i7 makes it to the iMac. Its just been released for the Macbook Pro and is 4 core vs 2, so 8 threads and better memory management.

The new MacBook Pro with 1GB VRAM and the i7 will outperform the iMac with the exception of RAM based processes, since the Macbooks are still limited to 8 GB.

Yeah we can go back and forth forever on the price disagreement. Do you think the new iMacs will be soon? I do need to purchase this mac within the next 2 days but if the new iMacs are out within 30days ill return this one for that.

With that aside, you say the $1899 is going to give me the best performance by far. Thats what i was thinking but was hoping someone knew something I didnt.

I have no idea when the new Macs are coming.

If you need this for a job so soon then go for it.

    Have you considered a Hacintosh?

I have seriously considered hackintosh but everything i’ve read says its really unreliable, what are your opinions, have you ever used one?

Not personally. I can’t recommend them.
