  • Buying first panel : MC Color or Tangent Wave?

Posted by Andrii Taran on July 10, 2012 at 3:18 am

I know there’re tons of threads, but mine is a little bit different 🙂

Managed to save some money and looking forward to buy my first panel!

I do small productions : web-oriented video(weddings, promos, music videos, everything in between) usually DSLR footage with Cinestyle & FS100. Been studying color grading for the last 9 months, learning how to see the shot and exposure, recognize key elements, etc. I’m buying panel specifically for Resolve and I’m looking for the one that will be most suitable for it. For sure, I’d like to buy Tangent Element, but we’ve recently moved to a new country and got a kid, so my budget is very, VERY limited.

    Thanx!

Functionally they’re about the same. The wave has stereoscopic modifications mapped to a page. The color has a better overall build quality, I’d go with which ever is cheaper. If you can get a deal on a used one that would be ideal.

If it matters to you: I took the wave cause it has more buttons and dials with a led description, so that way you dont need to memorize 30 buttons to start working with it. Second, I like the usb connection instead of the lan connection. People keep running into problem with that and it doesn’t seem to be the case with usb. Plus its bus powered, so less cables. Last point, the transport wheel, I tend to love it, Im constantly using it, Artist Color doesn’t have one.

I like the Wave because it is pretty easy to zip through the menus on. Nowhere near as elegantly as with the DaVinci panels, but it gets you there. And, the transport wheel as mentioned is something I use a lot as well to dial in the frame I want to grade.

I would save a bit and get element. Difference is so big imo.

In my case Element = 3 x Wave(I’ve got it pretty cheap)
