Buying an Imac and want Final Cut pro x to make gary numan “cars” video…
I am looking at buying the newest imac and purchasing final cut pro x seperate, since it doesn’t come with the Imac’s. I want to make a video similar to Gary Numan’s cars. It seems basic, but how do I make it exactly like his? Can I make the images pause in sync with the beat? Is this program easy to use? I’ve been stuck with windows movie maker which I know is terrible, but I got really got with it. I’m ready to up my editing game and make some real deal stuff. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Still not sure what computer to get that isn’t to expensive…thank you in advance!

I would start by getting yourself some training on Final Cur Pro X. I can highly recommend APVS: Final Cut Pro X from Ripple Training. It will give you a solid foundation on FCP X from which you can create your video. Many beginners choose to stumble about and find their own way but with video editing, there are tried and true workflows that will make your life a whole lot easier if you learn them up front. Don’t underestimate the value of good training.

Easy peasy. Drop markers on the beat then come back and apply a Hold at each marker. You can then split the video after the hold and add a transition to dissolve the next clip in just like in the cars video.

Dead simple. Not a lot of rules to understand, but if you want to get up and running quickly, get some training. There is lots of free tutorials on YouTube but sometimes you get what you pay for. 😉 FCP X allows you to edit very quickly and efficiently once you understand a few basic concepts of how it works.

What is your budget? I picked up a 2010 Mac Pro 2.9Ghz 12-Core on eBay for $2,275 because it wasn’t too expensive. I would highly recommend the new iMac 5K. I saw it at the Apple Store this week and it’s absolutely gorgeous! (I kinda wish I had bought one now) But without knowing your budget it’s impossible to recommend something.

I just found this in the Mac App Store: Lessons for Final Cut Pro X. Ripple Training has the fist 10 lesson’s free and lesson’s 11 through 20 are only $9.99. Sounds like a good deal to get you started once you have a Mac.

The freeze-frames and keyed-inside-a tambourine effects are easy to do in any NLE, including FCPX. The more complex effects nearer the end, and the teleidoscope type effects – can be created in Apple Motion and published into FCPX, but those will take a beginner some time to figure out how to do. Not impossible, just hard for a beginner, because they were a combination of live switcher effects and in-camera effects. They’d take me a while for even me to figure out, and I’d like to think I already know what I’m doing, most of the time.
