Activity Forums Adobe Encore DVD button in the subtitle track

I was recently given a DVD in which a button appears presumably in the subtitle track, allowing the viewer to access other content as the video plays, without first returning to a menu.

Is this part of the Blu-Ray spec. I am pretty sure you can’t do this in Encore.

    Any ideas or thoughts?

You’re correct – you can’t do this in Encore.

It can be done in the DVD format – the feature is known as buttons over video, in which buttons that are only represented in the subpicture layer are overlaid on top of the video. I’m not sure, but would not be surprised if Blu-ray also supports it. But alas, this cannot be done in Encore.

You can fake it by making a really large motion menu, but then you also risk running into the DVD-Video format 1 GB limitation for motion menus.

If your needs for this are modest enough (about 15 minutes of video, maximum), then faking it might work for you.

Thanks for the confirmation. I think we’ll do this in Flash – you can do anything in Flash.

[Mike Cohen] “…you can do anything in Flash.”

    Except build a DVD! 😉

    Good luck with your project.
