Burning DVDs with native time code
I have to burn 140 something reels with original time code for our writer.
Is there anyway to burn DVDs of reels within FCP without going through a long render.
Each of the reels is captured in its entirety so we have explored the option of putting each reel on a timeline and then placing a time code reader filter on the reel. But for each thirty minute reel this takes a 45 minute render. With 140 reels this will be a real time eater. Is there any way to retain the native time code without wasting all that time?

I think Bret meant to say “DVD recorder.” And, he’s right, with the Timecode Reader filter playing out live to a DVD recorder is the only way to create DVDs without rendering.

If you are using Compressor to encode, you can add the timecode filter there.
But yes, a DVD recorder might be a faster option.

You get a DVD Recorder
You turn on the TC Display on your VTR
You play the reels into the DVD Recorder. You can even put multiple reels on each DVD by going into the 4 or 6 hour recording mode.
We have a Panasonic model here.

I agree.
A DVD recorder with FW and the TC “Reader” filter.
If your Mac can play it in RT the quality will be enough preview,even if is no rendered.
