  • Burning DVCPRO footage to SD 16:9

Please forgive me if this question has asked before, I searched the archives, I just upgraded from a DVX100p to the HPX170, and I want to know if I shoot in HD DVCPRO 50 720p or 1080p what I should export this as if I want to burn a SD DVD ? the reason why I say 16:9 is I was hoping to maintain the aspect ratio of the HD footage, can this be done ? I will be using compressor to compress and convert it to mpeg 2 and DVD Studio Pro to author the DVD.

Thanks guys, I am a newbie

From FCP, export a reference or self-contained movie from your timeline. Drop that file into Compressor and choose your setting.

You can choose AR in DvdSP’s video track’s settings.
You can even choose if the 16:9 picture is letterboxed or pan&scanned when wieved on 4:3 device or choose user’s preference.

16:9 (sd-)dvd’s are the most common here in Europe and almost all here in Finland are 16:9, since all new sd-broadcasts have been done in 16:9 for few years now.
    I think it’s mainly in US that people think that SD = 4:3 & HD = 16:9.
