First off, NAB is April 20th and if Apple does announce a new Studio package, it may change the system configuration you want to get. So if you can wait on the final order until that date, it would be a good thing. Certainly do all your homework now, but if you can wait on ordering until we see what apple does, that would be good.
What type of media are you planning to cut? ProRes? Uncompressed? What?
I’m asking because Final Share from Maxx Digital has us running 6 workstations with 16TB shared storage for under $20,000 U.S. We’re using Ethernet for all the connections running up to 1080i/60 ProRes HD. Here’s an article I just wrote about the system for the Creative Cow.

Fibre Channel will require a host card in each machine, some sort of a server management tool and a lot more to share that 24TB G Speed across the multiple workstations, you’re probably looking at the XL model. You definitely want to bring in a consultant if you go Fibre Channel. My particular solution would have been over $45,000 if we went that route and I could not afford that much. If you’ve never done Fibre Channel before, you will want someone who has to consult with. Bob Zelin here on the Cow is an outstanding engineer who has done a lot of work for our shop.
On the Mac Pros, at least 1GB RAM per core is recommended. ATI Graphics cards are recommended if you are going to do a lot of work in Color.
What about your broadcast monitor? We just invested in Flanders Scientific LCD monitors as they are the best quality monitors I’ve seen at that price. Pretty much a CRT replacement. They are the yellow banners here in the forum or you can go to shopFSI.com. I have multiple postings about their products in my Blog.
