We are using Sony Vegas to pre-cut AVCHD files recorded on a Sony HXR-MC1P pencilcam, prior to exporting as MXF files for import into Avid Media Composer. The files are all around 32 minutes long and up to 4 files will be placed on a timeline. The problem is the time taken with the “Building Peaks” process, even when set to 8-bit files. Is there any way this feature can be turned off, since we are not editing to the fine degree that may need the ability to “see” the audio waveform? Any help welcomed! Thanks, Stu.

De-selecting View – Waveforms and Frames will turn off all timeline displays.
You can also hit Cancel when the project first starts to load.

Hi Mike… thank you so much for the tip. We are very new to Vegas (been using Avid for years) and couldn’t find any indication in the Help section re this. Your solution of hitting the Cancel button (didn’t know it cancelled just the peaks build) is a good one, as we can still see the frame display on the timeline, which is useful for quickly accessing the parts we need to remove. Many thanks, Stu

    Glad to help Stu.
I had to go searching for the answer myself as I knew there was a way to do it but couldn’t remember how 🙂
