3Ware is around the bottom. Areca consistently the top performer.

May 11, 2006 at 3:08 pmI am talking about the 9950 SX/SE , the new ones.
The 9500s were not as good. Big improvement.https://www.3ware.com/products/benchmarks_9590se.asp

[Steve Spaw] “dump the ATI 1800
Go for the 1900 with 512MB”Do you know something Matrox doesn’t? On their website of certified components for AxioLE they rate the 512MB 1800 higher than the 1900.

[Harm Millaard] “Supermicro has a nice case with 8 hot swappable bays that would meet these suggestions.”
I’m thinking of doing the same sort of thing that Mark is. I think I’d go for a 600 watt or better Power supply. One of the SuperMicro cases would be great because it could be rack mounted in the future, if I need. But, I’d also be interested in the Coolermaster Stacker which can’t be rack mounted but has more drive capacity, particularly with a couple of the SuperMicro 5 in 3 hot swap internal cages. Any further thoughts on Cases.
Also, doesn’t Mark need another large scratch drive in his system for audio and the like?

May 11, 2006 at 3:36 pmLike others, I would be very careful with your system components. Believe me, I learned the hard-way and we ended up wasting a lot of money, trying to use non-certified parts.
PS: Ron,
It was nice meeting you at NAB!Aanarav Sareen

Nope.
I will have to check with my Matrox guys about the 1900 issue, I think it is gone. We use Nvidia here anyway. 🙂

May 11, 2006 at 6:18 pmThank you all for your informative and entertaining input!
I wonder If i could sneak through customs with this under my arm. It would pay for a trip to the US to buy it there and fly back here. Maybe I can fly out with an old tower case and fly back with a new one. Maybe they will not notice, maybe I can do NLE from cell block 9 and discuss raid 6 vs 5 with inmates?
Or maybe Lyn can come visit me with a prebuilt system?
Mark.

I figured this one would be nice: https://www.supermicro.com/products/system/4U/7044/SYS-7044H-32R.cfm
with it’s redundant 760 W PS, 8 swappable SATA disks and room for 2 DVD RW drives and a boot disk.Harm Millaard

I forgot to mention that the advantage of the SuperMicro case is IMHO the effective airstream. cooling and quietness of the case, although the CoolerMaster has a good reputation as well.
If you need more storage capacity, you might want to have look at this site:
https://www.raid.com/
Their 24 disk raid system would be sufficient for most ordinary jobs.Harm Millaard
