  • Building a container to hold then release particles

Posted by Digbidallas on September 18, 2007 at 2:48 pm

I’ve only been using C4D for about 6 months, so bare with my terminology. My client has asked me to fill a Les Paul guitar with confetti-like particles then slowly release them across screen to then be contained again in the form of a drumset. Yeah right. I know…..

My question…. Does anyone know how I might make the guitar a container-like object and evenly disperse colliding particles inside?

Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A great place to start would be the TP Object Collision preset. Just drag the guitar object into the preset’s “object” box and put your emitter inside guitar. You’ll have to make sure the guitar’s normals are pointed inward.

You can move the particles from one volume to another by animating the object box (drag in the other collision object and keyframe it).

To get the particles over there, you could use a gravity preset, or you could use Srek’s wonderful “Suction” preset which you can download here: https://bonkers.de/tp/presets.html

Sorry, I’m kind of tired and realized I did a poor job explaining above. I put together a file which will hopefully give a better idea what I’m talking about. In the example I used two particle groups which is one way to do it, but not strictly necessary.
