bug….intel and hdv
Posted by Alvaro Lanciai on November 28, 2007 at 10:29 amdear Friends,
I discovered a bug testing my octocore intel with compressor.Unfortunately, encoding a file from hdv to m2v, an intel processor is 4 times slower than a non-intel processor,
…only in this case…!An 1,30 minutes clip needs 12 minutes with a power book and the same file needs 45 minutes with an octocore 3.00 ghz…i tried other solutions swapping the disks (system and storage) from one machine to another but the problem remain in the same machine….
I tried also with fps 6.0.2
…awaiting for an apple resolution….

November 28, 2007 at 7:35 pmI am betting that you are only using one of those cores to do the compressing.
This video talks about compressor and how to enable it to use the full potential of your computer.

November 28, 2007 at 11:31 pmMy tests came to the exact same conclusion. In fact I still have my dual 2.7 G5 (I edit on an octocore) just to do MPEG conversions.
Leopard is supposed to fix all this but I haven’t got it yet.
Alvo, you can look up my previous posts by viewing my profile and you’ll see what was said before.

Does…DOES. There is no U in there, unless you are putting out a fire.

November 29, 2007 at 12:59 amHeard it through the grapevine that Leopard better manages multi processors using Compressor.
But don’t take it from me- wait for the early adopters to report.

November 29, 2007 at 4:05 pmdear zrb123,
thank you for your prompt answer…I have to explain that the 8 cores are working all together from half to 3\4 of their capacity….I understand it just looking the green meters of my CPU MONITOR…and only when I use a magic bullet efx the processors are not optimized and i can see working only one processor a time….but i disabled magic bullet efx for this reason…
I tried to work enabling the Qmaster function as seen on that video (thank you) but it does not affect the neverending rendering times…I’m currently trying to do that more exatcly…
I think that the best solution will be another one : to capture the footage coding in APPLE INTERMEDIATE CODEC -best quality-….any other ideas…?
hoping in Leopard features…..
