  • BUG REPORT: Dynamic Linked AE proj uses old render in AME

Posted by Justin Crowell on September 13, 2014 at 10:31 pm

This is a really bad one that has now caused me over two hours of wasted time.

I made an update to an already-linked AE project. It shows properly in the PPro timeline. It exports properly from Premiere. But exports without the update when I use AME.

    1) I have saved the AE project.
    2) I have purged my media cache (and all of my blue bars disappeared in AE).

I’m so frustrated. I can’t stand working around these stupid bugs just to make a simple text change. And ALL of my future projects with this client are contingent on this working.

    I submitted a bug report.

    Hi Justin,

Sorry you’re experiencing some problems. Sounds to me like you need to clean your media cache database which is in Preferences>Media (if memory serves). You might also trash your preferences.

Thanks, Dennis. I may or may not have posted in a rage yesterday, forgetting the “never Cow while angry” rule. Anyway, cleaning the media cache worked. I’m pretty nervous this will happen in the future and when I least expect it, though. This sort of thing needs to be rock-solid before I use it in my workflow. If I can’t trust the media cache, I may just have to turn it off.

For simple text changes, you might want to consider using the new Live Templates feature in CC 2014:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/how-to/create-animated-text-titles.html

And for more than simple text changes, you can STILL use the new Live Templates feature:

    Hi Walter,
I’m familiar with those approaches, but it just doesn’t make sense in this case. I created a complete comp and then just needed to resize some text. Should be a simple turnaround thing. In fact–isn’t this what dynamic link was built for?
