bug in trimmer? – no video, audio only
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on June 13, 2012 at 2:20 pmI did see another post similar to this with no resolution posted.
I’m using the trimmer to edit since I want to create regions and subclips. I undock it to make it larger. Often, the trimmer window only displays ONLY the wave form of the audio (very large). I then have to dock it, then undock it to view the video AND the audio.
Do others experience this?
is this a bug?
is there a solution?Cheers,
GGilles

June 13, 2012 at 2:58 pmI sent a report to SCS regarding this a couple days ago,
to look into that particular trimmer issue.Steve Rhoden

June 13, 2012 at 3:53 pmWill do….Ive seen this happens a number of times when im
using the trimmer, even in Vegas 10, but it never really bothered
me, as ive gotten used to dealing with Vegas’s little imperfections.
…But they still must be brought to light, so that the software
can improve.Steve Rhoden

June 13, 2012 at 3:56 pmI agree.
Makes me wonder a bit about the level of testing that goes on before a release. Especially since this has gone on in a previous version. It doesn’t seem like an “obscure” bug to me.
Let’s hope you hear back.

June 14, 2012 at 5:17 amIt couldn’t be this easy, but…
I just tried dragging the trimmer out to float freely and sure enough all I could see was the audio track. Then I rolled my mouse up above the edge of the audio track and the cursor changed to indicate a draggable border. I pulled that border down to reveal the video portion of the tracks. So it seems like Vegas just set the video track height to Zero when I floated the window.

June 14, 2012 at 2:37 pmHi Rob. Thanks.
I just tried undocking it and it’s not misbehaving… at the moment.
next time it does, I’ll look for the resize you mentioned. It’s bound to happen again 😉Gilles

June 14, 2012 at 4:04 pmHi Rob, just tried again. No go.
Full size wave (audio), no video, no handle to resize. Redocked… both audio/video appeared with sizing handle.
Another observation… when trimmer is undocked and I only see the wave, if I press the trimmer’s PLAY, then the video appears. it disappears again when I pause/stop.

June 14, 2012 at 5:26 pmI don’t know if we’re seeing the same thing but it’s similar. If you float and doc the trimmer a few times you might see it being redrawn inconsistently. Sometimes the tracks are small, sometimes the monitor portion of the window is small or completely collapsed. For me, it’s always there, just sometimes collapsed down to a height of zero.
Part of it is that the docked window and the floated window are different sizes, so the adjustable parts of the window need to be resized, and I think their method of deciding on the sizes is buggy.
