Budgeting for Next Year-Would this work?
We are a church doing a 4 camera SDI (SD) Linecut recording the linecut to a Dual 2.0 G5 and a DVCPro deck. We are also capturing the cameras: Cam 1 to another G5, Camera 2 to a UVW-1800, 3 to a G4 laptop through AJA IO and 4 to a JVC DV deck. We then digitize the 2 tape feeds and share media through Gigabit ethernet (I know it’s wrong just don’t tell anybody)
We digitze at DV50 (The Great Compromise Codec) and have not yet implemented a time code solution so we sync by hand.My Dream would be to buy 3 more Intel Mac Pros. load them up with drives, and AJA cards (probably LHe’s) ,buy X-San and fibre channel cards for everyone, and have 5 computers (4 Iso’s and 1 linecut) plus 1 back up tape machine digitizing on Sunday morning, and then 2 or 3 of the computers sharing the footage during the week. Would this work? The unused computers during the week would be compressing DVD’s and rendering AE builds etc. Is there a significantly cheaper 4:2:2 DV50 quality solution out there? Each computer would capture to it’s local drives, and then the ediing machines would use all the footage through the fibrechannel network.
If this post looks familier, I posted a similar scenerio last year (with different machines), and got some of what I asked for.
Thanks
