    Hi all:

Speccing out a system for someone that doesn’t want to do “full” audio monitor setup, ie mixer, balanced audio, expensive monitors, etc.

What are the lower-end audio monitor solutions that will provide (relatively) true sound?

    1. A set of cheap USB speakers?
    2. A set of powered speakers that plug right into the MacPro’s audio line out mini jack?
    3. An inexpensive Decklink card that has unblalanced RCA out?

And speaker recommendations in whatever solution you feel would work best would be handy…

    Thanks,

    Tom

I’ve worked at a few facilities that use KRK Rock-it monitors. They seem to do a nice job and are pretty accurate for very little cash. And they are self-powered, so no amp needed.

Maybe. Your best bet is to use a small mixer & a set of self powered near-field monitors from the likes of KRK, HBB, M-Audio, Samson, or the like. Expect to pay around $200 & up for a pair of speakers.
