November 21, 2005 at 3:48 pmAre you asking for a brush stroke effect so that the background looks like a painting or an effect where you see the background being painted into the scene?

November 21, 2005 at 4:17 pmI have a background that is hand painted and I have a layered PSD of different painted strokes. But when I apply the Vector Paint efx to reveal these layers in a painterly way it looks to mechanical, and I was wondering if there was another way to reveal these layers so it looks more painterly

November 21, 2005 at 4:59 pmTry using the write on effect. Create path using your pen tool and paste it’s keyframes into the position attribute of your write on effect. This will create a path for the brush to follow that you can customize any way you want with brush size, brush feather, etc. You will have to change the brush to reveal rather than paint on. The keyframes can be adjusted to change the speed as well. Drag the final keyframe only and all other frames will drag to compensate. Very cool. There’s a great tutorial on this effect on creative cow. Search Jayse Hansen making things grow in After Effects.
