Activity Forums Storage & Archiving BRU PE catalog building

Gonar, it has worked for me. I’ve only used it a couple of times, but I was able to build a catalog from a tape, and then restore the tape to disk. The software was free, but I had to get a download link from Tolis. At the time I was needing it, it wasn’t posted on their site. I wrote to tech support, and asked how to rebuild a catalog, and they replied by sending a download link.

I have suggested they put a catalog rebuild feature into the BRU PE application (like there is in Retrospect). But, they don’t update it very often. Maybe next year. Who knows?

    Best of luck,
    Jim

Thank You Jim for fast response.

I’m so relieve that the solution is there, because I’m so worried I have lost all of my data. So how does it work actually? is it like verify (i takes a long time to do it)? or just a quick job that takes only minutes, FYI i have an average of 800GB of data in one catalog. And when you asked for the Bru Import Tools are you still in warranty (30 days)?

I’m very very thankful for you

Put your tape in, run the app (It’s called BRU Tape Import Tool 2.2), it scans your tape, and puts a catalog where your catalogs are stored.

Then, you run BRU PE, click the Restore or Verify tab, and you should see the new catalog.

    It’s pretty simple.

I was out of warranty when they provided the app to me. That may have been partly due to the fact I was criticizing them on their user forum about not having a catalog rebuild function in BRU PE. I was also criticizing them about their paltry 30 day support period. For a $500 piece of software, it should be at least a year, IMO.

Yeah, i’m feeling like that also. I’m so confused when this thing happen, because without catalog basically you cannot do anything to restore it. So easy to use but then so fragile when something goes wrong.

Oh i see, very simple enough, thanks for the info. I’m guessing I must buy the app (hopely not).

Many thanks Jim, keep in touch.

    Dear Jim,

I’m sorry to bother to you again. The software that you give it to me is working perfectly when I’m importing single archive or more in one tape, but I’m having trouble if there are multiple tape in one archive. The software reckon you to slow scan it, i follow the instruction. but then when the last tape is finished scanning the software said that cannot rename the archive. Are you having same trouble with me or do you have other way to do it. since I’m continuing tape. I can get into 20 tape in continuing. with different name and different archive. My problem is all of my archive is continuing. and I’m so frustated when I cannot impoting this.

Jim, can you tell me what you do in importing step by step to me. It would give me an outline to do mine.

    Gonar
