I have approx 2000 *.m2t video clips in support of a series of four 80 minute training videos.

CS4 has proven unstable when importing them into one of the four projects which was my original plan. So now I’m curious how others handle the task of browsing their clips when looking for the right ones.

I was considering creating a project that was nothing but the entire collection of clips then doing a save-as when starting each new one. But that may leave me vulnerable to more corrupt projects.

I’m writing off the work that was done before my first project became corrupted and starting over. This is, to me, a tragedy, but nothing is getting done by continuing to attempt recovery of that project and life goes on.

Had I known the platform was this unreliable I would have bitten the apple but, alas, I’m too far gone in the land of dollar bills.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are they all in one folder? Random problems can happen when you have a ton of files in one folder. Before even opening Premiere Pro, make a bunch of folders for them and put no more than say 50-100 files per folder. If it’s already that way, or if this doesn’t fix it…then strange. Something else is likely causing the problem besides virtue of a large number of files. (don’t regret going with a PC, either; it’s the better choice overall, mainly for performance reasons)

    James,

Yes, they are in several dozen folders, organized by date then location.

I’m starting over but would like to find out what’s the best way to prevent a recurrence so I’m continuing to try resurrecting my corrupted project.

One thing I noticed is that the prproj xml, which I now understand defines everything that I do to the clips, timeline and so on, is pointing to some locations that no longer exist on my computer. This problem existed before upgrading computers (I was on XP now I’m on a new, much more powerful, dell xps win7).

Do you browse all your media inside premiere? Is there any intrinsic problem with having two thousand clips?

    Thanks,

    Jeff G.
